Rittenhouse Needlepoint Philadelphia Chinatown Dragon Statue Needlepoint Canvas

This hand painted needlepoint canvas by Rittenhouse Needlepoint features one of the dragon statues from Dragon Dance located in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. Created by Ward Elicker, he cast two dragons in 2009 after attending the Chinese New Year celebration in Chinatown. The work is inspired by the tradition of large paper dragon puppets that dancers use in Chinese holiday parades. In Chinese culture, dragons represent prosperity, happiness, and good luck.
