Rittenhouse Needlepoint Philadelphia Joan of Arc Statue Needlepoint Canvas

This hand painted needlepoint canvas by Rittenhouse Needlepoint features the Joan of Arc statue located on the east side of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Philadelphia has one of the nation’s largest collection of public art with over 1500 statues and monuments. This monument to Joan of Arc is one of only 4 statues that depict real women. This statue by Emmanuel Frmiet was commissioned in 1890 to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution. In 1959, it was given it’s brilliant gilt finish and moved to its current location.
